WOMEN'S HEALTH: PMOS is the new PCOS

PMOS is a condition that affects approximately 1 in 8 women around the world. It is a very common condition, yet for many women it can take up to 12 years before a diagnosis is made. Up to 70% of women are not aware they have the condition.

PMOS happens because of disturbances in your hormone levels, and in how your body responds to those hormones. Many of these differences occur at a genetic and epigenetic level, and your lifestyle and diet, in turn, influence how it affects you. This is why the re-branding is important. PMOS stands for Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome, replacing its old name, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. The ovarian cysts that form in the condition are not diseased. It affects more than your reproductive health: it also affects your skin, your metabolic health, and your mental health.

It can be treated, even if we cannot cure it.

But as with any condition, the first step to an effective treatment plan is making a diagnosis.
